THE CONCEPT
The symbolism of the Three Graces dates back to Greek mythology. The poet Hesiod described three goddesses that represented Joy, Radiance, and Flowering. Together they create visual harmony with their balanced composition and form a feminine but human ideal.
Painted sometime between 1477-1482, for the marriage of Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco, cousin of Lorenzo Medici. La Primavera is considered to be Botticelli’s most beloved painting.
